High School Athletes Power Up the PowerKids Ministry

This summer, like the past 5 summers, over 50 student-athletes from McHenry County are coaching flag football for the FCA PowerKids sports ministry.  Schools represented are Crystal Lake Central, Crystal Lake South, Prairie Ridge, and McHenry.  These young coaches bring energy and excitement to this program.

"These coaches are the backbone of our league", states Jeff Boldog, Director of PowerKids Sports, "these young players really look up to their coaches and enjoying having them teach them each summer."  Many of our coaches this year are former players in the league.  Several players who participated in PowerKids football as players are Bryan and JT Bradshaw, Paul and Zach Brandwein, Mark D'Angelo, Jake Marchuka, Jen and Steven Covalt, Dean Halasz, Garrett Gassensmith, and Ethan Palmquist. 

In the future, our goal is to have 3/4 of our coaches be PowerKids alums.  Without their help and commitment, the league would not be as successful.  Each year, Seniors get nominated for a scholarship award for their commitment and character.

Who knows, out of this league we might find the next great coach of the future!
