This past Thanksgiving hosted an amazing time in The Lord for football and food! The Lincolnway East high school huddle, along with members from Hickory Creek Middle School and Liberty Jr. High presented Thanksgiving AM Football! Dads and sons alike, along with youth pastors, friends, and some tough young women came out to play flag football on Thanksgiving morning! The Lord provided the most perfect setting......a fresh snowfall (great for tackles when needed!) and a sun that was shining like a warming light made it great for many spectators!
The Peotone High School and Jr. High Huddles recently hosted a "Blizzard Bowl". This is their 3rd Annual Bowl-A-Thon which welcomed almost 40 bowlers for a great time of bowling and fun. A break between games stopped the alleys to a QUIET moment when Tim Walker, Men's Head Basketball Coach at Trinity Christian College, shared the Gospel message. Tim "bowled a perfect game" as over 40 people listened to him share scriptures for God's Word.
But, finally, as we watch ALL the activity in the Far South Suburbs in various schools, and weekly requests to start new huddles, it reminds me of a comment from a mature leader named Jonathon, at the Lincolnway Central campus who, when mentioned of having such large turnouts for their meetings, and the group being "somewhat rowdy"; his comment was this: "those are the ones we need to reach for Jesus!". WOW. Talk about a Praise! As we train and equip these young leaders in Christ, they in turn are sharing with friends, sometimes enemies, the message of Jesus Christ. THIS is what it's all about! The Lincolnway Central FCA Huddle has been averaging 50 at their bi-monthly meetings. Lives are being changed through basketball, soccer, and 'hang time'. But, the leaders there, as in other schools, have such a PASSION to reach their friends where they're at and share the true and only message of Salvation. That Jesus died for all who call upon His Name!
FCA. It's ALL about student/athletes ministering through sports to student/athletes; and getting them to the place where they earn their trust to share the message of Christ with them, then tap them into good, Bible-preaching local churches. And, without hesitation, those leaders that God has chosen to be put into place have proven their passion to do.
